Explore the human figure in combination with metal and clay. By incorporating these two materials we will develop our own personal symbols, allowing work to have meaning and metaphor. We will construct a medium sized torso using slab and coils, spending time on anatomy and facial features. Once our figures are created we will explore the possibilities of incorporating dipped fabric and metal to create clothing, hair and embelishments. Multiple surface treatments are introduced as well as post fired finishes such as powdered metals, graphite and encaustic wax.

The distinctive figurative sculpture by 丽莎CLAGUE hovers between fantasy and reality – playful, mysterious, contemplative. “My work evokes a place between the subconscious and the intangible,” she notes. “My masked figures are hybrid creatures, mistresses of ambiguity and disguise, of seduction and deception. These images, like dreams, are familiar but illusive.

The figures are rendered in white-ware and then treated with stains, oxides and wax. Metal, glass and/or wood are added components to complete the sculpture.

Clague received her 艺术学士 degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her Master of Fine Art degree from California College of Arts and Crafts.
