Teaching License & Required Testing
Nevada Department of Education Information
The Nevada Department of Education website outlines all requirements, fees, stipulations, licensure descriptions/types, and application resources. All applications for initial licensure, license renewal, or additional endorsements are submitted online.
All required testing must be completed before student teaching.
2. Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6 or 7-12, depending on your desired credential.
3. Praxis II:
- Elementary License: Elementary Education: Instructional Practice and Applications
- Secondary License: Teaching Major / Content Knowledge Test
- Special Education (SPED): Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications

Getting Your License
Applying: visit the Nevada Department of Education website to submit your application. An official transcript will be required.
California Teaching Credential: Many SNU Teacher Education students will teach in California. A California Teaching Credential can be obtained with a valid Nevada Teaching License. Applicants have 5 years after their initial credential is issued to complete California’s required testing.
Visit the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing website for the specific requirements for obtaining your California Credential. Select your credential and find the information under “Out-of-State Prepared Candidates”.
